Spray-Lock recommends the use of a damp mop as your final floor preparation to address this issue. Itís true, you will spend a little more time doing floor preparation for some floor materials, especially for VCT- but you save a lot of time and energy by spraying your adhesive as opposed to trowelling it. In fact, our customers have told us that they have noticed up to a 50% productivity savings when using Spray-Lock.
So, even if you have to spend an extra five or so minutes more on floor preparation it is worth it when the overall job is finished 50% faster.
For more details on the correct flooring preparation method Spray-Lock requires. Please refer to our Floor Preparation Guide by clicking HERE.
Spray-Lock is vastly different.
Spray-Lock adhesives are LOW in pressure and HIGH in solids. This means that the adhesive falls immediately to the ground without atomizing and becoming airborne. You can control the width of the spray by the height that it is sprayed at. ô
Spray-Lock adhesives DO NOT contain ANY solvents or emit any solvent-based odors. Our adhesives are water based and are NON FLAMMABLE. Every Spray-Lock adhesive formula contains ZERO VOCís (Volatile Organic Compounds). Spray-Lock sets a new benchmark in health and safety for installers in the floor adhesive industry. Spray Lock offers new flexibility in applying adhesives in sensitive occupied space areas such as schools, nursing homes and hospitals without affecting installers, students, staff or patients.
Because of our water based formula, our adhesives are easy to clean up. A cloth dampened with water can remove any overspray while the adhesive is still wet. If the adhesive dries try our MULTI-PURPOSE ADHESIVE CLEANER or mineral spirits depending on whatís available. Plus, Spray-Lock installers are not covered in messy adhesive at the end of the day
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCís) - Volatile chemicals produce vapors readily. Volatile organic chemicals include gasoline, industrial chemicals such as benzene, solvents such as toluene and xylene, and tetrachloroethylene (perchloroethylene, the principal dry cleaning solvent). Many volatile organic chemicals are also hazardous air pollutants.
Volatile Organic Compounds evaporate easily at room temperature and often have a sharp and unpleasant smell. They can come from many products, such as office equipment, traditional adhesives, carpeting, upholstery, paints, solvents, and cleaning products. Some VOCís can cause cancer in certain situations, especially when they are concentrated indoors. VOCís also create ozone, a harmful outdoor air pollutant.
All Spray-Lock adhesives have been measured as containing/emitting ZERO VOC's. Our adhesives were designed with the health of our installers and their customers in mind. We take indoor air quality seriously. That's why we meet or exceed the CRI (USA) Green Label PLUS Standard that exceeds the State of California's rigorous Indoor Air Quality Standards. We have also meet or exceeded the standards of the Floor Scoreô certification. In our pursuit of sustainability Spray-Lock is a proud member of the USGBC (United States Green Building Counsel)
Is Spray-Lock a pressure sensitive adhesive?
Yes and No. Spray-Lock has some characteristics that act like a pressure sensitive adhesive and others that do not.
For example, Spray Lock is similar in its ability to have a long open time before the adhesive dries out and is unusable.
However, Spray Lock is unlike pressure sensitive adhesives in that after 24-48 hours, the adhesiveís chemistry physically cross-links to itself, providing stronger cohesion. This gives you immediate usability of the flooring. Spray-Lockís releasability is dependant on the flexibility of the flooring. With flexible flooring products you can easily remove them with out damage to the subfloor or flooring.
Shear strength is the grip achieved as the adhesive holds to the floor covering against any horizontal (or sideways) movement. This lack of ìslipî prevents floor coverings such as vinyl plank and vinyl tile moving during the installation.
When applying traditional trowel based adhesive, movement of floor covering is easily caused by installer's knees twisting while they lay, by other trades walking over freshly laid adhesive or fork/scissor lifts driving over fresh floors.
Spray-Lock is different in that our adhesives provide instant shear strength once pressure is applied on the floor covering onto the spray adhesive. This immediate strength allows ALL traffic immediately. Installers can twist, pivot and turn on flooring without ANY risk of the floor covering moving at all. Fork/scissor lifts, furniture and fittings can be placed on the newly laid floor immediately after rolling flooring without any adhesive indentation or failures.
This adhesive was designed specifically to have limited releasability. During the installation we want the adhesive to be able to be pulled up and reset by the installer as needed. Once the floor covering is placed, pressure is applied with a 75-100 lbs roller to finish the floor. The shear strength is achieved immediately. This allows the installer to carefully position flooring and/or easily correct any misalignments as needed. After 24-48 hours the peel strength is fully achieved.
When installing heterogeneous vinyl, our formulas will NOT destroy the backing of the vinyl. So the vinyl can be reused. This allows easier repairs and faster future installations on the same floor. Simply remove the vinyl, re-spray the area and lay the new vinyl. This removes the need to clean off, re-sanding and re-prepping the floor.
Installers around the world are quickly adopting this spray adhesive technology.
0. One of the largest commercial carpet company in the world private labels our adhesive to use with their products.?
0. One of the largest retail company in the USA specify its use for each and every new store built and for refurbishment projects. Over 200 million square feet have been adhered using this spray adhesive in stores using vinyl plank and vinyl tile.?
0. Major supermarket chains across Australia and the USA are adopting the use of Spray-Lock due to its productivity, moisture resistance and health benefits. These retail based customers have noted the massive reduction of downtime to store areas that is provided by the use of this adhesive as the floors can be accessed immediately.
We suggest you take a look at our (testimonial) page to see what they have to say!
No. You only apply adhesive to the substrate.
The exception to this rule would be if an installer wanted stronger bond strength (i.e. coving sheet vinyl edges up the wall).
Spraying both surfaces, letting them tack off and then bringing them together will increase bond strength for angles and internal corners.

Our feedback from customers is that Spray-Lock is either at the same price or is priced below their current trowel based adhesives. When using Spray-Lock for flooring that requires a 2-part epoxy, Spray-Lock is far less in both price and installation time. Check with your local distributor for an order form and pricing.
