Normally I pick up dirt and dust in my trowel. Won't cleaning the floor thoroughly take more time than my existing adhesive currently does?
Yes it's true - you will spend a little more time doing floor preparation for some floor materials other than VCT- but you save a
massive amount of time and energy by spraying your adhesive as opposed to trowelling it. In fact, our customers have told us that they have noticed 50-65% productivity saving when using our spray adhesive.
So, even if you have to spend an extra five or so minutes more on floor preparation isn't it worth it when theoverall job will be finished 50% faster?
For more details on the correct flooring preparation method Spray-Lock requires. Refer to our Floor Preparation Guide by clicking

I've seen Spray Adhesives before. They are high pressure with strong solvent odour (which are not usually accepted on a work site). These high pressure spray systems are difficult to avoid overspraying onto adjacent surfaces and are messy to clean up.
What is different about Spray-Lock?
Everything is vastly different when comparing the two.
Firstly, Spray-Lock adhesives are LOW pressure. This means that the adhesive foam drops immediately to the ground or where you point the wand and it is easy to control where it is dispersed and how much of it is dispersed.
Secondly, Spray-Lock adhesives DO NOT contain ANY solvents or emit any solvent based odours. Our adhesives are water based and are NON FLAMMABLE. Every Spray-Lock adhesive formula contains NO VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds). It is a fact that at this time that all trowel based adhesive and other solvent based spray adhesives contain at least some VOCs. We believe that Spray-Lock sets a new benchmark in health and safety for installers in the floor adhesive industry. Spray Lock offers new flexibility in applying adhesives in sensitive occupied space areas such as schools, nursing homes and hospitals without affecting installers, students, staff and patients.
Thirdly, our adhesives are easy to clean up. Any overspray will always be slight and can be removed by a water dampened cloth while it is still fresh and MULTI-PURPOSE ADHESIVE CLEANER if the adhesive has dried. Spray-Lock installers are not covered in messy adhesive at the day's end. This adhesive is really that clean.
What are VOC's?
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) - Volatile chemicals produce vapors readily. Volatile organic chemicals include gasoline, industrial chemicals such as benzene, solvents such as toluene and xylene, and tetrachloroethylene (perchloroethylene, the principal dry cleaning solvent). Many volatile organic chemicals are also hazardous air pollutants.
Volatile Compounds evaporate easily at room temperature and often have a sharp and unpleasant smell. They can come from many products, such as office equipment, traditional adhesives, carpeting, upholstery, paints, solvents, and cleaning products. Some VOCs can cause cancer in certain situations, especially when they are concentrated indoors. VOCs also create ozone, a harmful outdoor air pollutant.
All Spray-Lock adhesives have been measured as containing/emitting ZERO VOC's. In fact, our adhesives were designed with the health of our installers and their customers in mind. We take indoor air quality seriously. That's why we accord with the world's toughest standard - the CRI (USA) Green Label PLUS Standard which exceeds the State of California's rigorous Indoor Air Quality Standards.
Is Spray-Lock a pressure sensitive adhesive?
Yes and No. Spray-Lock has some characteristics that behave like a pressure sensitive adhesive and others that do not.
For example, Spray Lock is similar in its ability to have a long open time before the adhesive 'goes off' or expires.
However, Spray Lock is unlike pressure sensitive adhesives in that it will set hard 24-48 hours after pressure has been applied and will not be 're-stickable' (unless you spray area with a refresh spray).
What do you mean when you claim that this adhesive has instant shear strength?
Shear strength is the grip achieved as the adhesive holds to the floor covering against any horizontal (or sideways) movement. This lack of 'sideways movement' prevents floor coverings such as vinyl plank and vinyl tile moving during the installation.
When applying traditional trowel based adhesive, movement of floor covering is easily caused by installer's knees twisting while they lay, by other trades walking over freshly laid adhesive or fork/scissor lifts driving over fresh floors.
Where Spray-Lock is different is that our adhesives provide instant shear strength once pressure is applied on the floor covering onto the spray adhesive. This immediate strength allows all foot traffic instantly; installers can twist, pivot and turn on flooring without ANY risk of the floor covering moving at all. Forklifts and scissor lifts can access floors within 20 minutes and furniture and fittings can be placed on the newly laid floor immediately after adhesion and rolling without any adverse effects.
Due to the lack of a bed of adhesive underneath to disturb installers can kneel and install over freshly laid flooring which allows them more freedom on the job. See picture illustration explanation below:
When I use the spray adhesive I notice the initial bond strength isn't that strong, as I can easily pull my vinyl planks off the floor. Why is this?
This adhesive was designed specifically to have this ability. During the installation we wanted the adhesive to be able to be pulled up and reset by the installer during the installation stage. Once the floor covering is in the right place then pressure is applied via a roller. It is 24-48 hours later that the bond strength is fully achieved. This allows the installer to carefully position flooring and/or easily correct mistakes in the placement of vinyl planks.
When installing heterogeneous vinyl our formulas will NOT destroy the backing of the vinyl, so the vinyl can be reused. This allows easier repairs and faster future installations on the same floor. Simply remove the vinyl, re-spray the area and lay the new vinyl - removing the need for cleaning off, re-sanding the floor and applying top coat.
Who else is using it?
Installers around the world are fast adopting this spray adhesive technology.
- The largest commercial carpet company in the world (Mohawk) mandate its use with their products.
- The largest retail company in the world WAL-MART of the USA specify its use for each and every new store built and for refurbishment projects. Over 9 million square metres have been adhered using this spray adhesive in WAL-MART stores using vinyl plank and vinyl tile.
- Major supermarket chains across Australia are adopting the use of Spray-Lock due to its productivity, moisture resistance and health benefits. These retail based customers have noted the massive reduction of downtime to store areas that is provided by the use of this adhesive as the floors can be accessed straight away.
We suggest you take a look at our
testimonials page to see what they have to say!
Do I spray both the floor and floor covering like I would do with a contact spray?
No. This adhesive is designed to be sprayed on to the floor surface only.
Unless... The exception to this rule would be if an installer wanted stronger bond strength (e.g. coving sheet vinyl edges).
Spraying both surfaces, letting them tack off and then bringing them together will increase bond strength for angles and internal corners.
How much adhesive do I spray for each different floor covering?
How does Spray-Lock compare in price to traditional trowel based adhesives?
Our feedback from customers is that Spray-Lock is either at the same price or is priced below their current trowel based adhesives. When using Spray-Lock for rubber tiles we are substantially cheaper than alternative epoxy based adhesives prices. Check with your local distributor for an order form and pricing.

How do I become trained to use the Spray-Lock adhesive?
It's very simple. When you purchase an Installation starter kit and Heat Jacket you will receive inside your kit an INSTALLER TRAINING DVD and laminated
Installer Guides (which can also be easily downloaded from this website by clicking
here)
Once you and your installers view the 24 minute INSTALLER TRAINING DVD and read the
Installer Guides you are ready to spray. This DVD can also be viewed in six specific chapters for refresher or specific training purposes.
Please note that installers who spray without viewing the DVD or guides are at risk of damaging the spray system, incorrectly applying the adhesive and over/under spraying. All warranty protection will be VOID when correct installation procedures have not been followed.
How long will it take to clean the cylinder spray system?
What coverage can I get from a cylinder? And how much coverage can be expected from an aerosol can?
The coverage varies with each different floor covering. To view coverage rates simply navigate to your chosen floor covering on the left hand side of this page and click the name (e.g carpet tile) then scroll down the right hand side window until you see a coverage box illustration. This box will accurately tell you the coverage output for cylinders and aerosols.
NOTE: For high moisture concrete slabs - The coverage per cylinder and aerosol is 50% less than the coverage box states. (up to twice the adhesive is required for wet slabs.
Spray Lock recommends that high moisture concrete slabs be treated with an effective sealant such as PROTECT-CRETE's "Moisture Fix" to ensure long term immunity from the possible long term damage to floor coverings due to excessive hydrostatic moisture levels.

What do I do with the empty Cylinders and Aerosol Cans?
Both can be recycled as they contain no flammable or toxic materials. Cylinders are made from recyclable steel. Aerosols are made from recyclable aluminum. Local waste stations and scrap metal companies accept these metals.
Cylinders and Aerosol cans cannot be refilled due to US laws and regulations.
