Looking at flooring adhesives from a total cost/benefit perspective
Spray Lock is most often cheaper or similarly priced to conventional trowel based adhesives in the marketplace. While it is accepted that cost/benefit ratios may vary depending on whether a sub contractor is paid by the square metre or total time on the job by the flooring company, many of the benefits of Spray Lock adhesive apply to both parties. Here are five key issues you need to take into consideration:
Coverage
Spray Lock quotes a conservative coverage of 446 square metres for most floor coverings (230 square metres for rubber tiles) from a 19 kg (nett weight) cylinder but we are finding in practice that contractors are regularly getting 550+ square metres from a cylinder that has been warmed to 30 degrees C. Aerosol coverage is quoted at 18.5 square metres but we are seeing some applications where warmed aerosols are getting over 35 square metres from a single aerosol.
Operating the Spray Lock adhesives in accordance with the Installation Guides and Spray Pattern Guides can deliver extra coverage to you in most applications.
Wider areas of use
Spray Lock contains NO VOCs at all - so it can be used in Hospitals, Schools, Health Care facilities and office buildings with complete safety for contractors and the ultimate occupants of the floor space. While some competitors claim "low VOC emissions" and "low VOC by content" the fact remains that you either have VOCs - or you don't. Spray Lock's low pressure system uses a safe, non flammable propellant already used world wide in asthma inhalers so you KNOW it is safe for humans and kinder on our environment.
Cleaner and faster applications
Australian contractors are experiencing productivity gains of 65% and more using Spray Lock. Time is money in any business and contractors are finding Spray Lock a cleaner adhesive that does not mess up their hands and clothing when handling flooring materials. Floors can be primed straight after laying as Spray Lock allows full weight and traffic once the flooring is laid - with no bed of slippery adhesive underneath to worry about.
Better worker health and industry image
When a worker can walk at normal pace and lay down 250 square metres of adhesive in less than 15 minutes - it is not hard to see how Spray Lock can deliver Occupational Health and Safety advantages with less stress on worker's knees and lower backs - and less fatigue at the end of each day too. All companies need to realise the benefits of a safer and more healthy workforce with the financial and social benefits that flow from better work practices. Attracting workers to the industry will be easier when a cleaner image of the floor layer can be promoted instead of the dirty, smelly adhesive stained clothing and the sore knees and back complaints from laying conventional, solvent based adhesives.
High moisture and alkalinity resistance
While Spray Lock will never recommend short cuts or bad practices in floor preparation, the fact remains that Spray Lock adhesive will NOT re-emulsify with water and high pH levels. In the USA, where floor slabs are poured last in a project, Spray Lock has brought a 30% failure rate of vinyl plank on 28 day old slabs down to zero. A properly prepared floor adhered with Spray Lock according to the simple installation guidelines will NOT let you down. It is also brilliant for regular floor maintenance and repairs with a single aerosol of Spray Lock instead of the existing "clutter" that needs to be dragged around by installers (buckets, trowels, adhesives, cleaners etc).
